Never Enough
My review of Never Enough: From Barista to Billionaire, by Andrew Wilkinson.
More of a personal tale rather than a business book, which offers a refreshing perspective on entrepreneurship. I loved how vulnerable Andrew was able to be.
Notes
- Andrew’s ambition and motivation are very inspiring. But his relationship with money is complex and unhealthy for most of his life. “Be careful what you wish for, lest it come true” → only money-obsessed people can make tons of it. Pick your battles.
- The book is full of crispy anecdotes on the absurd world of those who have too much money:
- “I wish I was the guy next door, he has a $25M house”, a $10M house owner said.
- “Bezos is so fcking rich, he just bought his tenth house for $150M+. He can afford super yatchs whereas I only own regular ones*”, said another billionaire worth +10B.
- After he tried it all (watches, houses, luxury trips, and so on), Andrew realizes most of his happiness comes from time with his family, friends, and interesting people. So he signs the Giving Pledge and becomes a “Fundraiser for Society”, an expression that I love - i.e. almost all the money he made and will make will be for others. He finally “opts out from the money game”.
